Course Description The course includes the concepts and terminology of information processing as well as skill development in the use of information processing equipment and software. Areas of instruction include word processing, database, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, making presentations, Internet and telecommunications. The role computers play in modern society as well as a brief history of computing is included. Dual credit is available free of charge through Southwestern Illinois College for students who are or will be 16 or older during the course.

Teaching Methods The course is taught through lecture, readings, group work, presentations and discussion of concepts and current computer news items. Students apply the concepts on the computer when doing problems and exercises. As a part of the employment unit, a mock interview is conducted for each student.
