Course Description
This course incorporates three different components that serve as an introduction to the construction industry.
The drafting component will foster an awareness and understanding of drafting terms, drafting instruments (including computer aided drafting) and their uses, lettering styles and procedures, sketching and shape description, geometric constructions, and multi view projection. This component provides a foundation for students interested in engineering or architecture related careers.
The construction technology component of this course includes study and practical application of fundamental principles, methods, and basic technical skills related to residential construction.
The woods and hand tools component of this course fosters an awareness of construction technology. Through a variety of learning activities, students are exposed to many career opportunities in the construction field. Safety procedures are stressed and monitored at all times. Experience in construction include product design, materials and processes, tools and equipment in the wood working field (including computers), and safety procedures.
Illinois State Goals and Learning Standards which are addressed in this class are:
State Goals, 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 13, &15 (see attached page.)
