Course Description

CVE is a course for senior trainees who work a minimum of 10 hours per week at an approved training station and attend the CVE related class each day at school. Written training agreements are completed between the student, the school, and the training station which list the expectations of each in detail. CVE Related is taught in the classroom and is an extension of the workplace. The classroom material is designed to help students prepare for their career paths.

Course Objectives

The Cooperative Education Program is a course planned to prepare students for future employment. The purpose of this course is to provide the student with extensive career orientation as well as experience in the working world. The development of employability skills and career exploration will help the student become aware of their present and future role as a worker in today’s society.

Entering the world of work
Explore ways to find various jobs.
Discuss things that your employer can expect of you and things that you can

expect from you employer.

Discuss ways to be successful in any job.

Developing your skills and understanding
Discuss ways to improve various types of communication skills.
Develop a basic understanding of our economic system.
Discuss leadership skills that can be used at any phase in an employees career

path.

Becoming a wise consumer
Discuss ways to develop responsible spending habits.
Develop a plan for dealing with financial responsibility.
Discuss various types of banking services.
Discuss ways to use credit responsibly.

Teaching Methods

This class is taught through lecture, projects, presentations, reading, and discussion. Students are working in individual areas of interest on many of the projects and assignments. Students are allowed to work together on selected assignments. Students are given review sheets for each unit to help them prepare for tests.

Assessment

Students will be assessed on lecture material through tests and quizzes.
Students will also be assessed at their training stations by a person who oversees their daily work. They will be assessed on quality of work, job knowledge, work output, reliability, and cooperation.
Group activities will be evaluated based on the student’s participation and the accuracy of the material presented.
The teacher through accuracy of the information and accepted public speaking techniques will evaluate oral presentations.
