Weekly Updates Home

Hello –

WEAR ORANGE FOR TARA

Tara will be receiving her bone marrow transplant on this Thursday.  We are asking all of our students to wear orange on Thursday and that everyone keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

 PARENT/STUDENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES

Parent/teacher conferences have been a bi-annual tradition at SHS but the faculty and I would now like to ask that students attend and be an important voice in these conferences.  We think it is important that students have a chance to talk about and take ownership in their progress within the classroom and hope that by including them in our bi-annual meetings we will facilitate this through improved communication with parents and teachers.  These conferences will be developed and adapted over time but our goal for September 13th and 15th of this year is just to get everyone in the meeting together – so please bring your child with you to your conference.  Conferences have been scheduled in the following manner:  Each student/parent has been scheduled with their mentor teacher for a 15 minute conference.  At the end of this 15 minutes there will be a 10 minute window where no teacher has a conference so that you may talk to another teacher, other than the mentor teacher, if you feel it is necessary:

EX:  4:00 – 4:15 – every teacher has a conference

4:15 – 4:25 – no teacher is scheduled with a conference and is available for walk-ins.

       4:25 – 4:40 – every teacher has a scheduled conference

4:40 – 4:50 – no teacher is scheduled with a conference and is available for walk-ins.

       Etc. etc….

We hope this will allow access to multiple teachers if needed.

This is something new so there may be a few glitches and changes that need to be made for the spring conferences but we are optimistic this will improve the quality of conferences and is a positive step to take.  If you have any questions please let me know.  You should receive a letter in the mail at the end of the week.  Please call and reschedule if the assigned time isn’t convenient.

Parents will receive passwords and log-in information for our new grading system at conferences.

 RTI UPDATE

Last Thursday and Friday we used Discover Education to benchmark all high school students in Math and English.  The reports generated will allow us to see many things: individual student growth across test periods within subject and grade, overall subject summary of performance, and a performance by standard summary.  We hope to have individual student performance information at student teacher conferences and I will continue to keep you updated on our progress.

SEEDS OF STEELEVILLE (S.O.S) – submitted by Angie Knop

WHEN: The next meeting is Wednesday, September 14th at 7:30pm  at the Firehouse Brew Company

WHAT: This is what S.O.S. is all about:

Some parents in the community of Steeleville have gotten together to form a new organization for our youth. The Seeds of Steeleville, S.O.S., “Help us help them grow, “will be an organization open to all youth age groups.  Our goal is to teach our children what it is to be a part of a community; to volunteer, to give and show them what it takes to make a quality, caring township such as the one we live in, as well as offer fun, free activities on a bi-monthly basis for them to enjoy.

Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting. We need parents support and kids participation to make this all it can be.
